Día de Muertos Inspired Shoes

While I have been basically at home trying to take care of my leg....I was crafting away! First, I have to say if you have never visited or know of Kathy Cano-Murillo of craftychica.com, well, then you do not know what you are missing. She is a very talented woman who has inspired me so many times.

 Her love of Mexican culture and how she incorporates it into so many of her amazing designs is, well amazing. Some of you may remember that last summer, I painted a pair of plain white canvas slip-on's I purchased from Wal-Mart to look like watermelons:

 So, I decided to put my love of the Mexican holiday of The Day of the Dead or as it is known in Mexico, Día de Muertos into painting myself a new pair of shoes! I went back to Wally World, much to my chagrin, but, I knew I could find an inexpensive pair of black canvas slip-ons...and I did.

 I wasn't sure what my design was going to be, so, I just went with the flow....what ever my hands started painting, well, that is what got painted. I'm really excited how they turned out....it will be several days before I can wear them as I like to let the paint set...but, I hope you like them:






 I think I might like to paint a couple more pairs....work on my designs some more.....but, I think I like them!

      I have long had a respect and admiration of this holiday due to how the people honor there dead and treat them with respect.

      I would make many more pairs....just have to find the shoes.....you need to try and make a pair for yourself also!

Good Sunday Evening Everyone, Well, if you have ever visited my Pinterest boards, you know that I love Bohemian ANYTHING! The colors.....the clothes.....the furniture.....I'm an "ole hippie", what do you expect! I have seen so many things online, from clothes to jewelry, that have touched my bohemian soul, but, of course, for the most part, I can not afford to buy what I like. So, I resort to learning how to make it instead, and recently, I had seen these zip tie bracelets and just didn't think they would turn out like the pictures, but they did! Easy Peazy! You will need the large zip ties, your jewelry making tools, strips of cloth, jewelry wire and scotch tape. Yes, scotch tape! I took a zip tie and made a circle to measure the size of my wrist, but then just added a "smidgen"and then cut off the end of the zip tie and taped the circle together. Everyone Loves Watermelon....Right?

Good Monday Evening Everyone, Wow, can you believe that it is already the 6th of May??? I can't.....it seems like it was just yesterday that I  moved into my new home in February! But, I'm not complaining...especially after all the rain we got last week, the Sun was out today....there was a nice breeze blowing....and I had breakfast with my 2 daughters this morning, and my 4 1/2 month old grandson! It was wonderful, and I knew Summer is on it's way! When I was growing up, one of my favorite times of the Summer was when you could see all the watermelons for sale, and my Daddy loved him some watermelon! He would go to the local little farmer's stand where all his buddies whom were farmers were selling fresh local produce. He would load up the car with watermelons and come home. The Lady with Blue Eyes...New Folk Art Painting

Good Friday Evening Everyone, Wow, it has been an absolutely beautiful day down here in rural South Georgia in my hometown of Waycross. The Sun has been shinning most of the day.....a soft, gentle breeze has been whispering through the pines.....just an all around great day..... and what better time for me to premiere my newest, and I think my best, folk art painting. I had this idea in my head for along time....I wanted her to be a little whimsy.....slightly "hippieish".... magical....secretive.....and special. I used both acrylic and oil painting....I had an old frame in my craft closet....and decided to glue the frame to the mat.
